What does PAT Testing involve?
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state that any electrical equipment which could cause injury must be maintained in a safe condition. PAT Testing is a systematic testing of each device to ensure its safety.
It includes a simple visual inspection, to check for damaged cables, plugs or connectors. Electrical testing is also carried out to ensure that each appliance is safe to use. At the end of the testing, a certificate is issued along with a log of the devices tested.
How frequently is PAT Testing required?
Strictly speaking, PAT Testing isn’t a legal requirement. However, the Electricity at Work Regulations state that electrical equipment must be maintained in a safe condition and PAT Testing is a simple, recognised way of providing evidence that you have complied with the regulations.
In practice, most businesses carry out PAT Testing yearly, although some industrial businesses or commercial kitchens will test every six months, given the nature of their equipment and the greater potential risks.
Call us on 0330 332 7969 or contact us through the website to find out more about PAT Testing.
We have many years’ experience of PAT Testing and can provide guidance on how frequently to test and will advise you if any equipment needs inspecting on a more frequent basis.
